The Story Behind Trouty Water

Over two years ago, we packed up for a weekend getaway in western North Carolina — just our family, the open road, and a plan to chase waterfalls. We’d always fished with the kids, usually tossing lines into the neighborhood pond for bass and bluegill. But something about this trip felt different.

We brought along some ultralight rods and a handful of rooster tails, hoping to try our luck along the Cullasaja River outside of Highlands. As we drove, scanning the bends in the river for the right spot, our son Harrison suddenly pointed out the window and said, “There’s some trouty water… let’s go there!”

Sure enough, that was the spot where we landed our first brook trout — and where I sacrificed my wedding ring trying to untangle another line (worth it). That moment stuck with us. It wasn’t just about catching a fish. It was about slowing down, connecting with nature, and watching our kids discover the outdoors the same way we had.

Trouty Water was born from that day.

This brand is for families like ours — who hike, fish, and explore with muddy boots and open hearts. Our apparel is designed for real life: breathable, durable, and rooted in the kind of memories you never forget.

Our logo tells that story too. The trout over the water is a direct nod to our name, but look closer — the two mountain peaks in the background represent our sons, standing tall in the distance, always part of the journey. Like the rivers we follow, they guide us forward.

Welcome to Trouty Water.

Seek it. Find it. Fish it.
